Friendship is a form of interpersonal relationship generally considered to be closer than association, although there is a range of degrees of intimacy in both friendships and associations. It is the state of being friends; friendly relation, or attachment, to a person, or between persons; affection arising from mutual esteem and good will; friendliness; amity; good will.

A friend is a person whom one knows, likes, and trusts. It
is a person with whom one is allied in a struggle or cause; a comrade. It is one
who supports, sympathizes with, or patronizes a group, cause, or movement.
Value that is found in friendships is often the result
of a friend demonstrating the following on a consistent basis.
1.
The tendency to desire what is best for the other.
2.
Shows Sympathy and empathy.
3.
Has honesty, perhaps in situations where it may be
difficult for others to speak the truth, especially in terms of pointing
out the perceived faults of one's counterpart.
4.
Mutual understanding and compassion;
ability to go to each other for emotional support.
5.
Enjoyment of each other's company.
6.
Trust in one another.
7.
Positive reciprocity — a relationship is
based on equal give-and-take between the two parties.
8.
The ability to be oneself, express one's feelings and
make mistakes without fear of judgement.
